Secret, eerie mountain figures with glinting lake eyes
Views from and insights into the peaceful mountain regions in Carinthia
Getting to know an alpine landscape is often full of surprises. This programme will lead you to less known spots in the Alps, offering many surprises in a small area. Here you will meet secret and eerie mountain creations as well as glittering lake eyes. Fantastic views already on short hikes through the villages in the Drautal valley. And then from the steep meadows full of rare herbs and flowers, the views to the valley with the meandering Drau river, the Dolomites opposite and the Gailtal Alps are rather exciting.
The following tours to the summits of the Kreuzeckgruppe, the Lienzer Dolomites and the Reiskofel, the most stunning mountain in the Gailtal Alps, offer endless views of the sea of mountain peaks.
High above the village of Berg im Drautal the Hochtristen outdoes its neighbouring peaks. On the way you'll pass the Einsee and Zweisee lakes before descending over hidden Edelweiss meadows to the Emberger Alm pasture.
The climb from the Comptonhütte hut up the rocky ridges to the Reiskofel is spectacular. Also a British painter set his impressions on paper here.
Staying overnight at the hut will ensure enough time to reach the narrow summit.
Just as exciting is the tour over the southwestern ridge to Hochstadel, the most easterly point in the Lienzer Dolomites. You'll be rewarded with a panoramic view from the Glockner to the Triglav peaks and an unforgettable cured ham snack at the Vinzhütte hut.
The third tour leads to the Scharnik mountain above the herb village of Irschen, where in the foothills long ago gold and silver were mined. Surrounded by small mountain lakes, the hike over the Leppner and Weneberger alpine pastures is a real delight.
