In the Defereggental valley with the lovely villages of St. Jakob, St. Veit and Hopfgarten, 350 km of perfectly looked after and signposted hiking paths set the scene for an active hiking holiday. A multitude of lovely paths with plenty of resting benches show off the beautiful countryside of sprawling spruce, larch and pine forests. The mild climate at an ideal height is especially recommended to allergy sufferers.

A wealth of themed hiking trails can be found in the valley of Defereggental: the Oberhaus Swiss stone pine forest educational trail, the nature trail “life on steep slopes”, or the themed trail “in Apollo’s realm”. For those who want to get up high, the Brunnalm cable cars are a big help. Accompanied by experienced National Park rangers on guided hikes, you can discover the diverse flora and fauna and marvel at the panoramic views, e.g at the ancient Jagdhausalmen pastures in St. Jakob.
