High up on the mountains between Großglockner and Großvenediger the remaining snowfields make hiking an adventure. A total of 241 mountains which are over 3,000 m make up Austria’s ‘roof’. The trails are well developed, the cable cars transport guests easily to the most beautiful panoramic spots and starting points for long hikes. Mountain villages such as Kals am Großglockner, Prägraten am Großvenediger or Innervillgraten have retained the charm of alpine pioneer times.

The Karnische Höhenweg (Carnic high alpine path), the unspoilt Villgratental valley with its alpine pastures and the oldest pastures in Austria, the Jagdhausalmen, are just a few of the attractive hiking destinations. National Park rangers will guide you to watch golden eagle, chamois and ibex in their natural surroundings, and they also offer multiple-day hikes from hut to hut: the Glockner, Schober or National Park treks offer an insight into the wonderland of East Tyrol and promise impressions that will not be forgotten in a lifetime.
