Pleasant hiking from alpine pasture to alpine pasture along the majestic Hochkönig

KÖNIGSWEG: Hiking without luggage along the majestic Hochkönig range!
4-day hike that joins all 3 villages in a circular trail.
The mighty Hochkönig mountain with almost 3,000 metres towers over the whole region and offers an insight to its realm: each village on the KÖNIGSWEG has its own tales to tell: Mühlbach, the former mining village, conceals hidden treasures that can be found along the KÖNIGSWEG. In the quaint village of Dienten discover the legends of the area. The pilgrimage village of Maria Alm with the highest church tower in Salzburg is spiritually uplifting and has many a tale to tell.

Day 1: Day of arrival – the Hochkönig region welcomes its guests! To acclimatise you will spend the first night at a cosy ***guesthouse in Maria Alm where you can also enjoy your first dinner.

Day 2: Hiking tour from Maria Alm to Dienten, crossing the local mountain, Natrun With the cable cars up to the local mountain of Maria Alm. From there, on the interesting forest path to the Gasthof Jufen inn in Hinterthal. Further on on the idyllic path via the Mußbachalm pasture to the Pichlalm pasture and Mittereggalm pasture and to the next village, Dienten. While enjoying dinner, you can look back on the impressions left by the large number of natural beauties that you saw on your first day of hiking.

Day 3: From Dienten to Mühlbach – hiking tour at His Majesty’s feet Keeping along the foot of the impressive Hochkönig the tour leads across gentle alpine pastures to cosy mountain huts, roaring waterfalls, quiet forests and precipitous gorges as far as Mühlbach. Keen hikers can take the Erzweg (ore trail) down to the valley from the Arthurhaus cottage. The others can take the bus to get to the third village, Mühlbach am Hochkönig.

Day 4: Hike across the beautiful grass mountains from Mühlbach am Hochkönig to Dienten. Well rested, start in the village and take the somewhat steeper ascent to your first highlight and the highest point of the day, the Schneeberg (1,938 m). From there, walk on the wonderful high-altitude trail to the Klausalmkreuz cross, past the Kollmannsegg, across the Wastlhöhe and to the Bürglalm pasture. On the route from the Bürglalm pasture towards the valley you can already enjoy beautiful views of the village of Dienten.

Day 5: Day of rest before the Royal Stage We’ll use this day in Dienten am Hochkönig to rest and relax. But in order not to inexcusably neglect our muscles on this day, some easy fitness exercises along the Marlies Schild Fitness Trail are on the agenda. From the tourist office we’ll walk through the village to the end. Approx. 100 m after the end of the village, on the left hand side, a very informative starting point has been established.

Day 6: From Dienten to Maria Alm: Crossing 3 summits in one day! The peak and also the longest part of your tour: cross the Klingspitz and the Hochkasern and reach the highest point of this hiking tour, the Hundstein at 2,117 metres altitude! After this wonderful and unforgettable tour you’ll have completed the circuit and come back to the starting point, Maria Alm. Alternative for pleasure hikers: from Dienten via the Lettenalm pasture to the Marbachhöhe. Descent via the Eggeralm pasture to Hintermoos and then with the hikers’ bus back to Maria Alm.

Day 7: Day of departure. We hope to see you again soon. After a hearty breakfast, you will set out for home packed with impressions from the last days of hiking.
