Encounters of a personal kind

Pure Tyrol!

Each year in the Alpbachtal valley, international personalities from politics, business and science meet at the European Forum Alpbach. Inspiration flows with the exciting backdrop and there's also time to experience the surroundings: the most beautiful village in Austria with its historic heritage farms, the glass town of Rattenberg, the highest mountain in the Kitzbühl Alps or the new viewing platform in the Tiefenbachklamm gorge.

Day 1: Ascent with the 6-man gondola onto the Wiedersbergerhorn (almost 1,900 m altitude). We recommend that passionate hikers make a detour to the nearby Wiedersbergerhorn or plan a day’s tour via the Sagtaler Spitzen to Inneralpbach. Besides wonderful views you may encounter marmots or alpine chough or find plenty of blueberries to satisfy a ravenous appetite.

Day 2: Along the newly adapted path of the Tiefenbachklamm gorge between Kramsach & Brandenberg you will feel the power of water and walk in balance with nature. A special highlight is the newly constructed viewing platform at the highest and most spectacular spot of the gorge.

Day 3: Discovering the mountain farmers’ lives of the past – at the museum of Tyrolean farms in Kramsach. 14 originally preserved farms from all parts of Tyrol invite visitors to explore them the authentic way on an impressive tour.

Day 4: In Rattenberg, Austria’s smallest historic town, glass shops present their unique works of art along the charming pedestrian zone with its Mediterranean flair. The Augustinian Museum with its religious art treasures should not be missed.

Day 5: You just have to try the ‘Alpbachtaler Heumilchkäse’, a cheese that is made of hay milk in several variations at the cheese dairy in Reith in the Alpbachtal valley and that is offered in numerous restaurants. As a sweet extra we recommend the ‘Brandenberger Prügeltorte’.

Day 6: Other worlds open up in the valley: the modern contrasts with their historic backgrounds. Alpbach, the mountain village with its unique and uniform timber structures, has many heritage farms that are rich in history. Nevertheless the modern Congress Centre Alpbach fits in harmoniously. A leisurely circular tour along the ‘local history trail’ allows exciting insights into nature and history.

Day 7: Ride with the panoramic Sonnwendjoch chairlift from Kramsach to the Rofangebirge mountains. A pleasant trip to the charming lake Zireiner See should not be missed. The summit tour across the Schafsteig to the Sagzahn and Vorderes Sonnwendjoch is recommended for demanding hikers. Breathtaking!
